Categories: Biodiversity
Summary of the action:
Formulate a landscaped plantation project, then assemble motivated people and plant. We planted 61 trees of 14 different species.
The objectives:
- Increase biodiversity by creating a continuity of natural areas
- Raise awareness to students and teachers about the role of trees, teach them to plant trees
- Capture CO2
Details on the installation:
This action is conducted in 2 steps.
1 – Choose the area of plantation, the form of plantation (hedges, isolated trees or patches ( = microforests) then the adapted species for the land
2 – Work the ground and plant the trees following this tutorial:
61 holes digged by 30 students in 2h30
Useful advice:
The plantation has to happen from decembre to mars, timeframe of plant rest.
If you prepare in advance, you can work the ground using agricultural tools (subsoiler, cultivators or else, in an urban area, a mini-shovel), or the ground can be worked manually.
To maintain the most humidity and prevent grass (rivals from young plants), to regrow, it’s important to mulch the plants.
To go a little further: Biodiversity corridor and late reaping.
