Summary of the action:
Build and install an ashtray in front of the high school, which makes high school smokers want to throw their cigarette butts in it rather than on the ground. To make it more fun to throw your cigarette butts, a poll is taken over the ashtray. Smokers then throw the cigarette butt into the jar corresponding to their answer to the survey.
The objectives :
Reduce water pollution from cigarette butts. As a reminder, 1 cigarette butt thrown on the ground = 500 (cubic meters?) of polluted water !
Setting-up details :
First of all, we asked the school's principal for permission to install this ashtray. Then, we looked for recycled materials. It took us two afternoons to make the ashtray!
Practical tips :
To be sure of the success of your action or to convince the principal of the usefulness of your action, you can start by making the system simpler, with two transparent plastic bottles and a water bottom in each of them. Again, the students choose whether they want to put their cigarette butt in bottle A or B. This test will take you no more than 5 minutes to complete!
